ArthursSeat.com exists to answer the questions people actually ask before they climb Edinburgh’s volcano: which way up, how long, what shoes, when is the light best, and what else is worth seeing while you are there.
What we cover
The site is about Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park first, and the parts of Edinburgh that naturally go with them second: Holyrood Palace, the Royal Mile, the castle, Calton Hill and the Old Town. We describe every main route up the hill, the places to see in the park, how to get here, when to come and where to stay.
How we work
Practical details are checked against official sources — Historic Environment Scotland for the park, its roads and closures; Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams for transport; the attractions’ own websites for opening arrangements — and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide; hotel data from Trip.com. Where a detail is liable to change, such as road closures or the status of the Radical Road, we say so and tell you where to check.
We are not affiliated with Historic Environment Scotland, the Royal Household or the City of Edinburgh Council.
How the site is funded
The guide is free to read. When you book a tour or a hotel through our links we may earn a commission, at no cost to you. That never decides what we recommend — see our affiliate disclosure.
A note on the name
This site is about Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland. There is another Arthurs Seat — a hill with a gondola on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia — which is not covered here.
